Why your business is not showing on Google Maps

If customers search for what you do and your business never appears, there is usually a clear reason: an unverified profile, the wrong primary category, a service area set too wide, missing reviews or weak local signals. Start with a simple test. Search your exact business name on Google Maps. If you appear, your listing exists and the problem is ranking. If you do not appear even for your own name, the problem is the profile itself. Those are two very different fixes.

If you do not show up even for your name

• The profile was never fully verified
• The profile has been suspended or disabled
• There is a duplicate listing confusing Google
• A recent edit is still under review

Check your Google Business Profile dashboard first. Google usually shows a notice if something is wrong with verification or if the profile is restricted.

If you show for your name but not for your service

This is the more common situation, and it is a ranking issue. Your profile is live, but Google does not see it as one of the best answers for searches like "electrician near me" or "physio Dundrum".

Relevance

Does your primary category match what people search for? Are your services listed? Does your website have pages for those services? If Google cannot tell what you do, it will not show you for it.

Distance

Google favours businesses close to the searcher. If you have set a huge service area, you will not suddenly rank everywhere in it. Rankings are strongest near your address and fade with distance.

Prominence

Reviews, ratings, mentions across the web and the strength of your website all feed into how prominent Google sees you. A new or quiet profile often loses here to older, busier competitors.

One more thing to check: where you are searching from. Google results change with location, so a search from your own premises can look very different to one made a few kilometres away. Before deciding you are invisible, check from a few spots across the area you serve, or use a ranking grid that does it for you.

Showing up is not enough, you need the Top 3
